It’s a busy time of year. With all of the commotion during the holiday season, it’s important to take extra caution when it comes to keeping our pets safe this time of year! There are some important holiday hazards that could contribute significantly to our pets’ health. Here are a few of the most common holiday hazards:
Feeding pets “human treats”: We all know that we shouldn’t do this anyways, but doing this during the holidays is particularly dangerous. There are many common foods this time of year that can actually poison your pet, such as, dark chocolate, unbaked bread dough, macadamia nuts, turkey, alcohol, fruit cake, raisins, sugar-free candy, and baked goods.
Decorations: This one may be obvious, but still very important! Lights, ornaments, tinsel, and even pine needles all pose a threat to our pets!
Guest appearances: Your pet is used to the way you treat them. When relatives and friends come around during the holidays, they may not know how to treat your pet. Small screaming children, those who insist on an overabundance of treats for your pet and just unfamiliar faces can all cause your pet to react in a negative way.
Different routine: The holidays are a different routine for all of us. As mentioned earlier, it’s a lot of commotion! Too many unfamiliar people and things around can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and other suffering for your pet!
