Want to Lose Weight? Eat Chocolate and Drink Wine.

May 18, 2016

Eat chocolate and drink wine?! Since when has that ever helped anyone lose weight? When most people try to lose weight, they cut out on favorite foods such as cheese, chocolate, and wine. However, a top scientist, Professor Tim Spector, informs us that this isn’t the best tactic when it comes to losing those unwanted pounds.

In fact, a better diet is to eat a wide range of foods. “We ingest these microbes and they end up in our gut, where they diversify with the new foods we introduce over the years. The more diverse foods we eat, the more varieties of microbes in our bodies, which make us healthier,” reports The Mail.

There are approximately 3,500 different microbial species in the human stomach. Fifteen thousand years ago, our ancestors consumed about 150 ingredients weekly; now we consume fewer than 20.

However, it’s important to note that not all foods help in diversifying the microbes in our bodies. Fatty junk food, as well as an overuse of antibiotics, can wipe out a clean stomach. But good news, Professor Spector informs us that foods such as wine, cheese, and chocolate all help in diversifying the microbes in our stomachs, and therefore, promote healthier gut bacteria!
